Founded in 1949, Cantina Sardus Pater is situated on the Isle of Sant' Antioco, on the south-western part of Sardinia. Their vineyards are planted mostly with the Carignano grape, which had been used mostly for blending. However, Sardus Pater has decided to focus on this varietal and hand-harvest the grapes from 60–70 year old, low yielding vines to guarantee a better quality product. The thick planting patterns and the restrained yields result in a product that is rich in phenolic compounds, which is an ideal basis for the production of aged wines.
