Ovid Napa Valley Red 2013
The wine's great intensity and profound flavors come from a season of striving and struggle that began with a dry and early spring in the second year of California's drought and continued throughout the long growing season. Sweet firm tannins are interleaved with blackberry and dark cherry fruits, espresso, spice and licorice to make a wine that is both uncommonly delectable and undeniably eloquent.
Each year, from small lots of fruit grown in the red rocky soil of our vineyard on Pritchard Hill, we choose just the best barrels and blend them together to create the new vintage of Ovid Napa Valley. Ovid is a blend of the four Bordeaux varietals grown here: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot, varying in proportion from year to year but always eloquently conveying this special place.
