Moorilla Estate is located on a sandstone shelf bend in the Derwent River in suburban Hobart. Moorilla in the local Indigenous tongue means "rock by the water".
It was founded as Tasmania's second contemporary winery in the 1958 by Italian migrant, Claudio Alcorso only two years after Jean Migeut's pioneering efforts in the north of the state.
