Maipe Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Maipe Reserve is crafted from hand-selected parcels of the finest grapes grown at Chakana Estate. The grapes are carefully chosen and fermented in small lots to insure vineyard identity. The resulting wine is barrel aged 12 months to fully reveal the character of the Andean terroir. A smooth, complex wine with intense, savory fruit flavors, great length, and elegance.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Produced and estate bottled by Proviva S.R.L. (AKA Chakana Wines), founded in May 2002 by Juan Pelizzatti. The Chakana, or the Southern Cross constellation, is derived from the Inca word "chakay," which means "to cross" or "to bridge." It is used as a calendar, compass, and symbol by the indigenous people of the Andes highlands. Represented by a square cross with a circular center, it is a symbol of the Universal—a bridge or steps between the earth and the spiritual, thereby creating a perfect union when one crosses over them. As a product of the earth, wine is a dazzling transformer that offers a glimpse of this Universal. Bodega Chakana is trying to create this bridge, a role no different than that of the ancient shamans. Their goal is to create an integral experience by introducing consumers to the taste and culture of the Andes - "to bridge the gap between the material and the spiritual."
