Made in Normandy under the Appellation Calvados Contrôlée, this Vieux from Lelouvier follows the tradition of the great growers of southern Normandy. It is distilled in a column still from apples and pears, then aged slowly in oak barrels, and it is distilled, aged, and bottled entirely in the region.
Expect aromas of baked apple, pear compote, and vanilla, with hints of toasted oak and warm spice. The palate is smooth and rounded, with ripe orchard fruit, caramel, and a gentle woody depth that carries through a long, mellow finish. Bottled at 42% ABV and presented in an elegant white gift box, it is best sipped neat as a digestif, and it also pairs well with apple tart, dark chocolate, or aged cheeses.
