Intrigu Carignano del Sulcis Sardinia 2021
Intrigu is only aged in stainless steel for 6 months, followed by 3 months in bottle, which allows for a transparent presentation of the grape. On the nose there are aromas of balsamic, clove, violets, and black pepper.
On the palate, the wine is filled with notes of darker black and red fruits, tobacco leaves and a touch of clove. The tannins are gentle and leave a mouth coating finish.
Estate History:
The story of Angelo Rivano begins at the age of 12 when his father, Antonio, would bring Angelo along to help take the cows to pasture. His love for the countryside blossomed and he followed closely the footsteps of his father and learned the secrets of good farming. Shortly after, by the age of 14, Angelo was able to do all the farming jobs without the supervision of his father and, since then, they have been cultivating vines and working towards improving vinification techniques. The farm is a tiny 1-hectare vineyard of Carignano vines that was planted back in 1982. The area has a southeast exposure and has a high content of sand. The vines are all planted “piede franco”, also known as “ungrafted”, which keeps the vines protected against the threat of phylloxera. The warmer temperatures and unique soils make Sardegna the perfect growing area for Carignano, and Angelo Rivano is greatly aware of this, and it is one of the many reasons he chooses to only produce this one wine.
