Holdredge Pinot Noir Petits Cadeaux 2017
For this wine, they use different clones from a few blocks within the vineyard, but one block has a clone that produces incredibly tiny clusters; barely the size of the palm of your hand. These tiny clusters have tiny berries, so there is a lot of skin relative to juice; the name of this wine is a reference to these clusters, which John says are like “little gifts (petites cadeaux) from nature".
Holdredge is a small family winery in the truest sense of the term. They make less than 2,000 cases of Pinot Noir from Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast each year. Their focus is on making Pinot Noir from places that are special to them- which is the path to expressive and interesting wines. They also have a second label devoted to the obscure and less well-known grape varieties of Italy, which they call “Oscuro”.
