Geyser Peak Winery Pinot Grigio 2015
Pale yellow color. Lime, grapefruit, rose petal, mineral, and ginger on the nose. Tangerine, white peach, & pear flavors with a hint of marzipan-like nuttiness. Light bodied and crisp with lively acidity. Excellent as a sipping wine though pairs well with shellfish, salads, tuna tartare, grilled fish, or stone fruit.
Pinot Grigio is a black-skinned grape from which Geyser Peak Winery makes a white wine, so they are careful to handle the fruit as little as possible to extract the least amount of color. Early-morning harvesting and gentle pressing yield a faintly pink-colored juice and the color settles out during fermentation. In crafting this wine they were inspired by the Pinot Gris wines of Alsace which led us to incorporate some Gewuerztraminer into the blend. The floral Gewuerztraminer varietal brings an extra dimension to the white and pink flesh fruit flavors inherent in the Pinot Grigio and shows as a hint of rose petal and spice.
