Cvne Imperial Reserva 2014
Intense cherry color. On the nose it has an exotic and fulfilling complexity. Perfect balance of red fruits (redcurrant, raspberry, etc.), liquorice, and flavors from the different types of oak barrels used, such as thyme, cloves, vanilla, and soft, roasted balsamic notes. On the palate the wine exhibits an additional power and elegance, with a dense but gentle tannin, that leaves a long aftertaste with fruity and spicy notes.
Produced and bottled by Companyia Vinicola del Norte de Espanya. Imperial is one of the great names in Spanish winemaking. It is a true classic in Rioja and was first made in the 1920s. Its name comes from a special bottling for the English market made in a bottle size of a 'Pinta Imperial' or 'Imperial Pint,' which is approximately equivalent to half a liter. Imperial Reserva is produced only in exceptional vintages using mostly tempranillo grapes, handpicked in CVNE's oldest vineyards. It is a fine, structured, and deep wine that is aged in French and American oak casks for a minimum of 12 months and for a further period in a bottle.
