Named for the virgin oak barrels sourced from the Kelvin Cooperage in Louisville, Kentucky, this 12 yr old single malt has a pleasantly bready character along with hints of vanilla, brown butter, almond, and a bit of salt on the finish.
This is a richly honeyed Cardhu - thanks to a finishing in Jamaican Rum casks, a vibrant tropical sweetness awakens. The lush rum cask-rounded flavours and peppery wood-spice combine to create a vibrant taste of paradise.
NOSE: Heady virgin oak, bursting with lemon zest and sweet barley sugar, with delicious notes of apple and nutmeg. PALATE: A delightful sweetness, evoking memories of candied fruits and vanilla toffee, balanced with heather honey. Alba refers to Quercus Alba, the type of American White Oak that are used to mature A’Bunadh Alba. Coincidently, Alba is also the Scots Gaelic name for Scotland. The English name refers to the light colour of the bark of some species. American Oak trees grow much faster than most European Oak species and can live for hundreds of years.
Tomintoul is owned by small independent distillers, Angus Dundee, who also own Glencadam distillery near Brechin in the east of Scotland between Dundee and Aberdeen.
