Rayos Uva is winemaker Olivier Rivière’s version of a Bourgogne Rouge, sourced from fruit grown in the sandy, gravelly, alluvial soils of the Rioja Baja sub-region in the eastern part of Rioja. Aromas of fresh violets and roses, ripe cherries, plums, clove, and a touch of bacon fat leap out of the glass and definitely raise eyebrows. On the palate, it’s sleek, silky, and complete.

A wonderful deep ruby red, nose is deep and full and wide of berries, plumy, herbs and spices. The palate is not getting disappointed, nice plum, dates, forest berries, nice spices, vanilla and chocolate nuances.
Rounded and supple, full of dark raspberry and plum fruit, and lifted with floral notes make this a great value supper wine. It comes from a grand estate close to Carcassonne where the Château was built by the same architect as Versailles and where King Louis XIII left his travelling bed, possibly in the hope of a return visit.
