2017 was a very challenging year, as most of their vineyards in San Vicente de la Sonsierra in Rioja were affected by frost, unlike others in nearby Laguardia. On the nose, the first aromas to appear are those of the barrel aging; the most evident being vanilla, smoky notes, caramel and roasted coffee beans. On gently swirling the glass, these combine with aromas of black fruits. The blend of grapes give it a complex structure and aromatic intensity.
Exquisite balance of ripe fruit and oak here, melding together nicely on the full-bodied palate with well-placed tannins that create a pleasant, velvety and fruity carpet that glides gently through the long finish. So well constructed and will be utterly delicious for a long while yet.
