The 2016 OVID Napa Valley reflects the pleasure and opulence of the long and nearly perfect growing season from that created it. Expansive aromas of mulberry, fresh crushed raspberry, licorice, forest floor and pen ink are just beginning to tell the tale of a spectacular season.
The Opus One 2018 offers profuse aromas of blackberry, cassis, and black cherry. Elegant notes of violets, white pepper, and rose petals follow and together they deliver a very seductive bouquet. Kvanchkara is a medium-sweet red wine made from a blend of mujuretuli and aleksandreuli grapes. Made with Nero d'Avola, Petit Verdot and Syrah, this offers aromas of black-skinned berry, Mediterranean scrub and toasted oak. On the smooth, structured palate, fine-grained tannins accompany blackberry jam, mocha and hints of carob.
Winemaker, Eli Ben-Zaken, crafts this wine by allocating a portion of premium grape varietals - Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc - destined for the winery's flagship wine, Domaine du Castel Grand Vin. The grapes are picked early to ensure that the resulting wine has enough acidity to offer the crisp and tart nature of a rose that is expected.
