The 2016 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru was reduced by one-third due to the frost, unorthodox in that it affected the higher part of Etienne's vines. It has a slightly more rustic, almost obdurate nose than the previous two vintages, with touches of dried blood and something almost ferrous sutured into the red berry fruit.
Intense purple color. Fresh raspberry and cherry flavors, together with a soft touch of vanilla and spices make for a very charming aroma. Round and soft mouth feel, followed by a medium bodied and yet fleshy sensation. Velvety tannins and long fruity finish.
With successive vintages lauded by the national and international critics, this excellent wine is a real pleasure for the most demanding palates for its expressiveness and combination of nuances.
Altos Las Hormigas was founded in 1995 by Alberto Antonini, renowned Italian winemaker, and Antonio Morescalchi, moved by the potential of Malbec. The team is completed by Atilio Pagli, the Chilean Pedro Parra, soil specialist, and Fede Gambetta, today in charge of the day to day. The incessant fight against ants in organic vineyards gives rise to the name.
The wine offers a garnet-red color, with fuschia reflects. the bouquet is powerful, fruity with blackcurrant aromas and crystallized cherries. Supple and ample, the mouth reveals notes of blueberry jam. to be served with grilled meats, fine cheeses and chocolate desserts.
