The 2019 Gandona is simply magnificent. A wine of soaring intensity and structure the 2019 marries power richness and depth. Inky dark fruit chocolate black cherry leather and torrefaction all race across the palate. There is plenty of the opulence readers have come to expect here but with an extra kick of vibrancy that adds a feeling of energy the earlier vintages did not have. Sourced from multiple estates throughout the rolling hills of the appellation, intoxicatingly aromatic waves of brooding black cherries, Turkish tobacco, wet rock and vanilla cream crash into the glass with unbridled force, leading into an opulent and smooth palate of grilled plums, crushed gravel, cigar box and spice.
Impressively fresh and upbeat fruit that runs from dark cherries to berries and ripe dark plums. The palate has a very fresh and attractive core of plush fruit flavor with a long, seamless run of silky, fresh tannins.
The full-bodied palate is rich, concentrated, expressive and velvety, offering seamless freshness to lift and entice the mid-palate, finishing very, very long with some savory notions starting to unfurl.
Bouquet - the bouquet contains aromas of berries, fruits and a light shade of prunes.
Taste: harmonious, with moderate astringency and a pronounced varietal tone.
Color - from red to dark red.
Full and round on the palate, with a dense core of fruit, balanced acidity, well-integrated oak, and polished, neatly-defined tannins. A hint of minerals and dusting of cocoa powder lingers on the finish. Give it a light decant, and enjoy with herbed rack of lamb.
The 2015 Alluvial Selection is powerful and voluptuous, with notes of cassis, blackberry, dark chocolate and tobacco. Full-bodied, the palate delivers fine-grained, silky tannins with a vibrant finish. This expressive wine will age beautifully for 20+ years.
