The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Ranch might be the best Napa Valley Cabernet out there under $100. Based on 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, and the rest Cabernet Franc, it offers a full-bodied, round, sexy style that can be difficult to find in a vintage like 2017.
Medium red, a bit darker than the Coteaux Nobles. Less fruity and spicy on the nose today, with the strawberry and cherry aromas currently dominated by mocha, graphite and leather.
Chateau Souverain Pinot Noir reveals aromas of brown spice and blackberries on the nose. The oak profile is very complementary and integrated with notes of butterscotch and graham cracker characteristics on the palate.
This sparkling blush is bottle fermented and aged on the lees for 22 months. The result is a fresh, expressive and elegant pink. Aromas of yellow peach and pineapple blossom. Tight bubbles burst in summer ripened apricot and stone fruit with savory hints of basil and heirloom tomato. Elegant and balanced on the palate with a clean finish.
The 2022 Vino Rosso N Contrada Valle is dark and rich in the glass, with a balsamic flourish that gives way to mentholated herbs and dried black cherries. This is soft and soothing on the palate with ripe wild berry fruits and zesty citrus tones under an air of violet inner florals.
Dark garnet color. Seductive aromas of black tea, tobacco, and crushed tart cherry and blackberry. Faint notes of vanilla and toast accentuate dark plumb and cherry character. The palate is seamless with silky texture and long sweetness.
There's better integration of the oak and better balance, harmony and elegance in the 2021 Privada Family Blend. It was produced with 40% Malbec and 30% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from vineyards in Luján de Cuyo.
The red berry characteristics of the vinifera grape Cabernet Franc translate as an Icewine into strawberry like aromas and flavors. This Icewine is completely different from the white Icewines.
The finest rendition of this cuvée to date, Santenay Les Vignes Denses derives from high-density plantings in lieu-dit Les Prarons. Unwinding in the glass with notions of crisp Anjou pear, lemon oil, vanilla pod and crushed chalk, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and complete, with a deep core of fruit that's framed by chalky dry extract and racy acids. This is worth a special effort to seek out.
A perfumed and very pretty nose is composed of various floral nuances that sit atop notes of green apples, spice and plenty of citrus influence. There is excellent volume, richness and mid-palate concentration to the medium-bodied flavors that deliver a bit more overall depth if a bit less finesse on the youthfully austere finale.
Revisited in bottle, the 2021 Santenay Rouge Gravité has fulfilled all the potential it displayed from barrel. Mingling aromas of blackberries and cassis with hints of menthol, orange oil and exotic spices, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and velvety, with a fleshy, strikingly concentrated core of fruit that's framed by supple tannins, concluding with a long, saline finish.
