This north-facing limestone site is cool and late ripening. In a warm year like 2019 its quality soars. There is such a fine acidity and outstanding length. I was really blown away by this, and can’t wait to see how the fruit and acidity entwine further with some bottle age. Nervous and tense, this warrants attention.
Clear, firm, quite fresh aroma of red and a little black berries with floral nuances and a touch of citrus zest as well as hints of soup herbs and tar. Taut, tart, juicy, youthful fruit, nutty aromas, a little cocoa and a hint of coffee, some acidity, present, yet fine tannin, persistent, has power, salt in the background, also a little herbs and pepper, quite polished, very good, juicy and spicy finish with traction.
Made from 90% Mencía, with Palomino, Doña Blanca, and Alicante Bouschet, these vines are located in several plots with an average age of at least 50 years. What a back-to-back pair of vintages! I assume one would have to go back to 2002 and 2001 to find two Screaming Eagles this compelling. The 2013 appears set for 25-30 years of longevity. There is something magical about this Oakville parcel on the valley floor just under the looming hillsides of such wineries as Phelps, Bacchus and Dalla Valle's Maya, and across the street from the Rudd Estate, Plumpjack, etc.
The 2020 Screaming Eagle is one of the great surprises of the year. Energetic and vibrant in the glass, the 2020 offers a bit more energy than most readers are likely used to. All the elements are so well balanced.

Inspired by Three Finger Jack's daring character, this red bursts with unabashed fruit and a structure to be reckoned with. Polished tannins and saturated flavors of black plums and cherries spiced with coffee and black pepper let you know that this is not your ordinary Cabernet.
Limited Edition 19 Crimes x Universal Monsters comes to life in the dark! Frankenstein was the creation of Victor Frankenstein & was just a little misunderstood.
Weiss Winery continues the tradition of the family's grandfather, who founded the first winery in Mátészalka, Hungary, in 1882. This special blend is named after one hundred founders of the Mea Shearim neighborhood of Jerusalem. The grapes were harvested by hand from old vineyards, underwent long fermentations, and aged for 26 months in high-quality French oak barrels.
Intense red color with garnet reflection. Notes of forest fruits and black fruits on the nose, as well as some spicy, peppery and roasted notes.
Soft, creamy attack on the aromas of fruit then wood and roasting. More tense finish on a rich and supple finish.
The tones of red berry jam are expressed, the scent of honey and red orange is also noticeable. An interesting balance of sweetness and acidity is felt, which makes it even more attractive and memorable. Serve at 6-7°C. Goes well with crispy cakes.
