Garnet in color, with aromas of strawberry, pastry cream, and nutmeg. This wine is medium-bodied with dusty fine-grained tannins and a long juicy finish. Enjoy with grilled salmon, braised duck, or stuffed Portobello mushrooms.
Named for the winemaker's late mother, this particular bottling is always a standout. It offers entangled layers of tangerine, strawberry and earthy leather.
A nice beef bouillon aroma sets a meaty tone, accompanied by more genteel aromas of dried rose petals and blackcap raspberries. There's a nice balance between the restrained black cherry, black tea and lemon flavors, and the wine's modest acidity and tannins.
After sorting in the vineyard and winery, the grapes are de-stemmed then directly put in tank. The spontaneous fermentation then starts. The grapes will stay in tank for roughly three weeks during fermentation. The wine is then put in oak barrels, by gravity, for 10 months (no new oak). No fining is performed.
Nysa Vineyard Pinot come from 31-year-old, own rooted vines planted in deep Jory soil at 650 feet elevation at a due eastern aspect. The farming is organic and sparing as the vines have achieved a lovely balance emphasizing the distinctive character of the site.
Aromas of raspberries, cherries, brambleberry and cola with notes of vanilla. Long, elegant finish, with notes of cigar. On the palate, dark berry flavors lead to soft, velvety tannins on the mid-palate and notes of spice on the long, elegant finish.
The Benedict pinot is named in honor of Edward Ronan “Ned” Benedict and pays homage to his love of burgundy. The wine showcases the complexity this region produces with balance, purity and persistent flavors of dark red fruits and earthy undertones of beetroot and wet earth. The silky texture is balanced by bright acidity and fine grained tannins.
The single non-local vineyard, Hanspeter is super stoked by the site, which is a half-hour away on the lower hills of the Black Forest, on limestone layered with iron-rich clay, in a strikingly high elevation of almost 2,000 feet.
The Kanzler Vineyard, located in a cool microclimate southwest of Sebastopol, has been producing outstanding wines for a decade. Medium deep ruby color; deep, spicy black cherry aromas; rich, ripe, spice, black cerry fruit, forward, silky texture; good structure and balance; long finish.
