Pontet Teyssier Ch. Saint Emilion Grand Cru is a premium red wine produced in the Saint-Émilion appellation of the Bordeaux region of France. This wine is made from a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes, grown in the vineyards surrounding the historic Pontet Teyssier chateau.
Thanks to night harvesting, the cuvee benefits from several hours of low temperature skin-contact maceration. The different grape varietals are vinified separately with temperature controlled at 60 degrees F following cold settling.
With a southerly exposure, this 3.22 hectare vineyard is a mix of clay and lime. Oak barrels are used in fermentation bringing about soft and subtle tannins. The “Cellier aux Moines” parcel is very old with records dating back to 1258.
The 2016 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chalumaux, from vines planted in 1946, was cropped at just six to ten hectoliters per hectare this year. It has a harmonious bouquet of Granny Smith apples, fresh pear and subtle scents of passion fruit that betray the sunny period at the end of the growing season. The palate is fresh and crisp with a fine bead of acidity, very succinct and poised with a delightful salinit on the finish. Excellent.
This 2019 year a blend of Pinot Blanc, Riesling, and Gewurztraminer, Boxler’s Edelzwicker is a kaleidoscope of the flavors, aromas, and textures of Alsace—presented, of course, in the inimitable house style. Fresh aromas of white flowers, lemon-lime blossoms and lychee. It has mouthwatering acidity, light to medium bodied with wonderful floral notes in the palate.
The 2016 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru was reduced by one-third due to the frost, unorthodox in that it affected the higher part of Etienne's vines. It has a slightly more rustic, almost obdurate nose than the previous two vintages, with touches of dried blood and something almost ferrous sutured into the red berry fruit.
