The ten stunningly beautiful photographs from the historic session became known as the "Red Velvet" series, each one a portrait of Marilyn Monroe posing on a red velvet drape.
This wine has a unique profile due to the seasoned rum barrels used in the aging process. The portion aged in rum barrels imparts aromas of baking spice, nutmeg and toasted marshmallow. The balance of the wine, aged on French and American oak, offers red fruits and boysenberry jam with notes of vanilla. The structure is savory with velvety tannins and a lingering finish.
The EABA is more Syrah-dominated and checks in as 65% Syrah, 22% Mourvèdre, 10% Grenache, and the rest Viognier that saw plenty of stems and close to two years in 50% new French oak. Its inky purple hue is followed by a sensational bouquet of bloody blue fruits, black raspberries, iron, ground pepper, baking spices, and who knows what else. Incredibly complex and nuanced (yet intense) aromatically, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a deep, layered, concentrated mouthfeel, and a finish that won't quit.
This inviting, chocolaty wine is super-soft in mouthfeel at first, due to a full body and resolved tannins. But the tannins firm up on the finish to reveal a structure that can help it age well. Milk chocolate, blueberries and mint bring a lot of flavor. Blended from 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Malbec. Best from 2026.
The 2017 “IX Estate” beams from the glass with a feeling of purpose and a sense of place. In its youth, this vintage has continually shown enhanced soil driven aromas such as iron and graphite along with the sappy wild sage that grows in the periphery of this site.
