The Ashes & Diamonds 2019 Blanc No. 5 is a pristine blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon by Steve Matthiasson, offering a glimpse into Napa's styles of days gone by. There’s lots of Chenin between here and Santa Barbara, but there is good reason to traverse all those miles. Of all the sites with which the winery works, Jurassic Park, planted on its own roots on quartz sand atop lime- stone in the late 1970s exhibits the most vintage variation, and small variations create very strong signals in the wine. Some years lean toward the lithe and appley; some towards the exotic; some toward the saline and chalky.
The grapes for the Herzog Late Harvest Chenin Blanc were harvested from the Ehrhardt block of the Herzog Vineyard in California. These grapes were harvested very late in the season to provide a uniquely luscious Late Harvest wine characteristic.
Think spring lemon blossoms and honeysuckle while the palate is medium bodied with snappy and refreshing summer melon fruit characters. This is a versatile white wine that will pair with a wide range of foods, daytime picnics and long summer nights.
Lovely pear, red apple, stone fruit, lemon zest, along with hints of spice and floral notes. The palate has really good concentration, but remains vibrant and juicy with great balance and tension.
The 2022 Blank Stare pours a bright pale gold with an enticing shimmer of jade. Opening aromatics pilfer from the glass as it pours — notes of key lime, Granny Smith apple and hints of grapefruit, white pepper, frangipani and minerality. On the palate, the entry is crisp and fresh with bright lemon-lime, a touch of grapefruit and guava. The mid-palate and finish complement each other with a delicate and elegant fade of tropical mangosteen and lychee framed by youthful acidity.
Lively and lemony and racy. Remarkably reminiscent of an Hautes-Côtes Blanc. Lovely texture and great freshness. Very good!
Easy drinking honeyed stone fruit with supporting tannins. Fermented on the skins in tank. Aged in neutral French oak barrels.
