Our Pinot Noir grapes were destemmed, but not crushed, to retain a significant portion of whole berries for fermentation. After a two-day cold soak, fermentation began giving the wine a breadth and depth of aromas and flavors.

From California’s coastal, cool-climate Edna Valley, where the long, cool growing season allows us to patiently wait and pick grapes at their optimum flavor. Each ferment is gently handled with a bespoke regime to carefully extract pure fruit flavors and silken tannins.
Even at this early stage, this wine is long on flavor and texture, showing all the red raspberry and blackberry fruit that were apparent at harvest. Also coming forward are layers of dark chocolate, graphite, incense, and a wide array of baking spices.
This wine is phenomenally dark in color, and while it is rich in tannin and extract, the texture is silky, polished and long. In its youth, the wine is showing notes of mocha, cassis, black cherry, clay, and smoke.
Each year, from small lots of fruit grown in the red rocky soil of our vineyard on Pritchard Hill, we choose just the best barrels and blend them together to create the new vintage of Ovid Napa Valley.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon opens, inky and brooding in the glass, with rich dark fruits and crème de cassis followed by whispers of crushed violets and baking spices. Devastatingly handsome blackberry and boysenberry flavors are complemented by dustings of mocha.
This wine shares similar tones and hues as the Maya, with vibrant fruit and spice aromas, and a dark black-purple color. The natural acidity of the vintage comes through, adding to the wine’s volume, while the softness of the tannins make it immediately appealing.
