This 2020 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon is rich with dark cherry, plum and baking spices. The delicious fruit is accompanied by crushed violet and black pepper notes. The palate has medium tannins, lingering spicy oak fl avors and a lush finish.

The winery at Checkerboard is a small building reflecting a 'four-poster’ barn style found in early New England. We did not want a large building impacting the quiet and natural surrounding environment.
Floral aromas of violets and rose petals dance with wild strawberries on the nose of this wine. The mouthfeel, silky and refined, brightens with ripe chokeberry and currant, while touches of pipe tobacco and worn leather round out the sip.
This wine shares similar tones and hues as the Maya, with vibrant fruit and spice aromas, and a dark black-purple color. The natural acidity of the vintage comes through, adding to the wine’s volume, while the softness of the tannins make it immediately appealing. In addition to the typical red and black fruit character, the wine is layered with notes of chocolate, freshly cut thyme, and smoke.
Coming on the heels of a prolonged multi-year drought, the 2016 growing season was defined by near-ideal conditions. Rain in March and early April allowed the vines to start the spring with ample moisture in the soil, making for healthy canopies and balanced vines.
Their estate grown appellation wines are bottled with the “Alesia” designation. These wines showcase a line of estate grown, mountain vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines that offer incredible value and allow them to make an even stricter selection for their Rhys vineyard designated wines.
