2017 was a very challenging year, as most of their vineyards in San Vicente de la Sonsierra in Rioja were affected by frost, unlike others in nearby Laguardia. Not only was it frost, but they also had hail later on in the season. Quantities suffered—they told me they lost 70% of the crop in Rioja that year—but they were happy about the quality of the 2017 Macán, being very careful with the fermentation and separating the press wine by quality.
On the nose, the first aromas to appear are those of the barrel aging; the most evident being vanilla, smoky notes, caramel and roasted coffee beans. On gently swirling the glass, these combine with aromas of black fruits. The blend of grapes give it a complex structure and aromatic intensity.
This white wine grape is popular around the world and for good reason. Lusciously sweet, and fruit-forward aromas can be anything from fresh citrus to ripe tropical fruit. There are exceptional bottles from all different wine regions, but many of the best Rieslings come from Germany.
Exquisite balance of ripe fruit and oak here, melding together nicely on the full-bodied palate with well-placed tannins that create a pleasant, velvety and fruity carpet that glides gently through the long finish. So well constructed and will be utterly delicious for a long while yet.
Les Beaumonts is a fine and structured red wine, with a very good ageing potential. Very fruity, complex notes of undergrowth and mushroom after a few years in the cellar. This wine can be enjoyed now or left in your cellar for a few years.
A new California Cabernet Sauvignon, Bonanza is produced by Chuck Wagner, owner and winemaker of Caymus Vineyards. It reflects the “bonanza” of the great state of California – the discovery of land where delicious Cabernet can be farmed.
The original Huet vineyard is nearly 9 hA. It has the richest soils of the domaine’s three crus—a deep limestone-clay—and the wines are generally the estate’s most approachable.
E&J Gallo Family Vineyards Moscato is bursting with delicious flavors of peach, honey, and ripe citrus – in a delightfully light style. Be it a quiet chat on the back porch or a surprise visit from the neighbors, it’s a wine that pairs perfectly with the everyday moments of life.
