Castillo Perelada Garnatxa Blanca 2011
Using grapes from fifty to sixty-year-old vines, Castillo Perelada made this complex, monovarietal wine of tremendous personality. Pale yellow in color with some greenish tones. In the nose it is fruity and floral with spicy notes. In the mouth it is well balanced, fresh, and complex. This is a nice, persistent wine with a marked varietal personality.
100% Garnatxa Blanca. With a 700-year winemaking history and a world-renowned grandeur, Castillo Perelada is one of the most symbolic landmarks of the Emporda. The east wing of the castle is fortified with two impressive towers at its corners. The image of these two towers, reflected in the nearby lake, has become a trademark of the wines and cavas of Castillo Perelada. In 1923, the castle was purchased by Miguel Mateu Pla, whose dream was to revitalize the oenological traditions of the area. Discovering an old wine cellar underneath the cloisters, Don Miguel decided to start making wine and fell in love with it. He died in 1972 but his legacy remains alive in the heritage left behind at Perelada and in the memories of all those who knew him. They have been a host to major events and visits from key figures (e.g. royal weddings and presidents of the United States), and today their wines are well-known. The white Garnatxa is one of the most planted native varietals in the Emporda.
