Alma de Casa 2012
Alma de Casa—The soul of the house. This wine has a deep-cherry color and intense aromas of ripe fruit which are typical of the monastrell grapes. Perfectly well balanced and smooth, fruity, and with a long finish.
80% Monastrell, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Produced and bottled by R.E. 30042/MU (AKA Casa del Canto) for Long Wines. Casa del Canto comes from the area to the north of Yecla in a region of wild, rugged hills where the Spanish meseta meets the Mediterranean plain. The combination of the area's poor but well-drained soil and the extremes of temperature typical of a Continental Mediterranean climate provides excellent growing conditions. This traditional and trend setting family-run winery owns 371 acres of vines (from 7 to 70 years old) and has control of a further 865 acres which include a mix of monastrell, garnacha, tempranillo, syrah, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and petit verdot. This fruit-driven, intense yet easy to drink wine exudes the spirit of monastrell, a grape highly prized elsewhere (Rhone Valley and Australia), but best adapted to Murcia, in the warm south of Spain.
