Classic red Cabernet fruit joins a touch of blackberry and currant, with moderate but well integrated tannins and a soft, round mouthfeel. Recognizable accents from aging in American oak bring a pleasant oak spice to the finish. Earthy flavors enhance the fruit flavors in this wine, especially with foods such as herb roasted chicken, grilled pork, caramelized onions, eggplant, sauteed greens, roasted potatoes or vegetables, and aged jack and gouda cheese.
Hess Family Estates was founded in 1844 by Johann Heinrich Hess in Berne, Switzerland. For more than 100 years, beer was the central business. When he died, his son, Donald Hess, took over the company and soon became an entrepreneur. In the early 1960s, anticipating the surge of demand for bottled water, Donald created Valser Water, which would become Switzerland's leading mineral-water company. In 1978, the establishment of the Hess Collection Winery on Mount Veeder in the Napa Valley started an epic journey that would see vines planted and art museums built across the globe, culminating with Bodega Colome—the highest vineyard in the world in Argentina.
