Stags Leap Winery Merlot 2015
The 2012 Napa Valley Merlot is at once complex and approachable, opening with generous aromas of dark plum and bright red fruit, with enticing hints of clove and cinnamon throughout. Juicy red fruit flavors are effortlessly integrated with notes of caramel and savory spice that contribute depth to the polished palate. In 1883 Horace Chase, who had found his fortune investing in gold and silver mines, embarked on a new venture—winemaking in Napa Valley. Mr. Chase found the perfect volcanic rock and rich clay soil in which to plant vines and build a home, creating the estate that inspired the Stags Leap appellation. Located at the very heart of Stags Leap District, the original Stags' Leap Winery (not related to Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, who happens to be their neighbor) continues a proud winemaking heritage in the prestigious appellation that bears the winery name.
