St. Amant Winery Tempranillo 2003
Yes, this is a Tempranillo from California and it is mind blowing. It has everything we look for when choosing a great red from Rioja or Ribera del Duero: the cigar box bouquet with huge dark fruit palate concentration and well integrated tannins on the finish. St. Amant Winery is a small family owned winery that prides itself in producing handcrafted wines of superb quality. The wine is full and rich with incredible concentration for the price. A spectacular bouquet of dark berry fruits and smoky cedar. Masses of black currant and black fruits on the palate that is rich and unctuous and so pleasing and inviting on the palate. Long and full-bodied, with terrific fruit purity, and good softness and acidity, this is a stunning red not to be missed. Drinkable now, it promises to last and improve for 8-10 years. One of the greatest wine discoveries ever at Grapes! I opened three vintages of the wine over the weekend 2001 , 2002 and 2003 to see how the wines are developing. They were spectacular, drinking superbly well and had many years to go.
