Weingut Rudi Pichler was established in 1884 by the Pichler family in the village of Wosendorf. The original cellar building was more of a small stall and their first vineyards were not planted until 1904. Rudi III took over the business in 1997 and expanded the vineyards. In 2004, he built a new, modernized winery near his private home. Pichler's vineyards are primarily in the western end of the Wachau, where the cool mountain breezes underscore the minerality and structure in the wines. Working from old vines on primarily rocky soils, it is the aim of the Pichler estate to reflect these vineyards very clearly in the glass.
100% Gruener Veltliner. The more savory aspects of Gruener Veltliner are present in the aroma of this wine, with yellow apple and spice notes. On the palate, the minerality that is typical of these vineyards comes through, with herb and some wax-bean notes. Can pair well with strong vegetable flavors, such as asparagus and green pea, or with lighter meat dishes.
