Primo Volo 2003
Named in honor of the moment when inspiration for this project struck, PRIMOVOLO (first flight) is the result of an unusual collaborative effort between three wine producers from three of Italy's chief winemaking regions. Partners in this venture are Sergio Zingarelli of Rocca delle Macie, Andrea Faccio of Villa Giada and Giordano Emo Capodilista of La Montecchia.
Grape Varieties: Sangiovese from Rocca delle Macie in Tuscany; Barbera from Villa Giada in Piedmont; Merlot from La Montecchia in the Veneto. Vinification: Each grape variety is vinified in its respective place of origin in the style of its producer. The batches are aged separately in small French oak barrels for over 12 months, then blended and refined in bottle prior to release. Color: Intense ruby red with purple reflections. Bouquet: Round, rich and complex, with scents of ripe raspberry followed by balsamic and cherry notes. Taste: Smooth and silky, with flavors of plum, raspberry and spice underscored by fine tannins. The finish is full and generous, marked by hints of hazelnut.
