Pouco-Commum Alvarinho 2013
Other Grape | Portugal
This variety, Alvarinho, may originally have been introduced to the Northwest Iberian Peninsula by the Gaulish monks. Curiously, the first king of Portugal, Afonso Henriques, was a geat nephew of St Hugh, Abbot of Cluny. It is one of the least productive varieties in the world. Search for notations tree fruits, especially apples and pears. The presence of a certain terpene alcohol, linalool, lends it floral, honeyed, and citrus notes. It strikes a good balance between structure, acidity, and length. An age-worthy wine.
