Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, and Tinta Cao. It all began in August 15, 1918, a few months before the Armistice, when Manoel Domingues Pocas Junior decided to establish his own company. Manoel Pocas was 30 years old and already had some experience in the wine business. With his uncle, he created a company to sell brandies to large Port-wine producers. Soon afterwards he opened head offices in Vila Nova de Gaia, where they remain to this date. Today, with three quintas in the best winemaking areas of the Douro demarcated region, Pocas ensures total control over the quality of their wines and the family is more involved than ever before. Port wine produced only in very exceptional years, it is bottled 24 months after the original harvest. It will then mature in the bottle for many years and gradually achieve the outstanding style of a great wine.
