With an intense color, this pleasing, full-bodied wine is redolent of red berries with deliciously soft tannins and a well-rounded mouthfeel. This is a well-integrated wine that was aged in small, French-oak barrels and shows excellent aging potential.
Situated on the east and northeast facing slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain, Plaisir de Merle is bordered by the towns of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, and Paarl—South Africa's most-renowned winemaking areas. The terroir results in grapes of unsurpassed quality and the Plaisir de Merle Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted from grapes from a variety of vineyards. Their winemaker adds small quantities of other Plaisir de Merle reds to achieve a new level of complexity and to increase the accessibility of the wine.
