Pinord Chateldon Reserva 2009
Deep red in color with violet undertones; clear and brilliant. Intense aromas of raisins and jams with slight traces of oak. If you swirl the glass round, more varietal aromas and spicy notes such as clove or pepper will appear. A gentle palate with moderate ageing. The flavors due to its aging stand out in good balance with the body of the wine. A long finish and intense full body leave a pleasant flavor in the mouth. There is no substitute for this wine with meat (whether simply grilled or elaborately cooked) or game.
Cabernet Sauvignon with some Merlot. Bodegas Pinord dates back to over 150 years ago when the Tetas family began making white and red wines on their estate in Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues from grapes they had grown. In 1942, Josep Maria Tetas set up the current winery in Vilafranca del Penedes, just 2.5 miles from the original estate. The name of their vineyard "Pi del Nord" (Pine of the North) is what inspired the family to name the company "Bodegas Pinord." They have converted to organic farming, becoming the first winery in the region to be certified for organic practices. The winery is still in its original location, next to the Vilafranca del Penedes train station, where they had their own pipeline which went under the rails to fill up tanks in the waiting trains.
