Peter Franus Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2007
Truchard Vineyards, located in the northern boundary of the appellation of Carneros, provided the grapes for this wine. Its rolling hills and low fog provides an ideal environment for Bordeaux reds. The Cabernet Sauvignon from this region tends to add softness, acidity, and forward, almost floral notes to the final blend. The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon is vibrant, hinting at a longevity not originally anticipated - an outstanding vintage that typically translates into rich, ripe, voluptuous, generally crowd-pleasing wines and bound to evoke quite a few smiles.
90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot. Youthful and dark ruby in color, the briary aromas of the 2007 Cab leap from the glass. Paradoxically both dark and bright, there are hints of blackberry, cassis, tar, and rose petal. The wine is firm with ample tannins and acidity leading to cherry flavors that expand and stream across the palate. Warm sweet oak notes discretely extend the finish providing a wonderful mouthfeel and no sharp edges.
