Owing to the Proclamation announced by the Catholic Monarchs in 1502, Muslims were expelled from the Iberian Peninsula. Among some descendants of the Muslim inhabitants who were converted to Christianity, there was a little princess, daughter of a rich merchant who was appointed governor by the Caliph.
