Merlin La Roche Vineuse Pouilly Fuisse 2007

This is a sensual, stylish and really fine Pouilly-Fuisse. Multi-layered, subtle and very elegant, it still displays impressive weight and the wonderfully harmonious finish has great persistence.

Olivier Merlin's domaine is situated in one of the best growing sites in the Maconnais. The village of La Roche Vineuse is where the flat, clay rich soils, close to the Saone River start to give way to the limestone outcrops of the western Maconnais. This wine is made from 100% Chardonnay and Merlin believes that given its combination of power and minerality that it can support a complete fermentation and maturation in small oak barrels. The wine is medium bodied with hints of toasty oak and honey and with a steely, mineral backbone.
