Syrah. The Chapoutier family first settled in Tain l'Hermitage (Rhone) back in 1808 and purchased a winery owned by Comte Monier de la Sizeranne. In 1990, at the age of 26, Michel Chapoutier takes over his family's firm and in 1996, Michel decides to incorporate Braille on all his wine labels. This innovative approach is a tribute to Maurice Monier de la Sizeranne, original owner of the vineyard where Hermitage La Sizeranne wines are made and also inventor of the first version of abbreviated Braille. Today, M. Chapoutier is the only producer to own vineyards in all of the major Rhone appellations, making them the leading Rhone producer. The Cornas vineyard have benefited from a long, established notoriety: Charlemagne, Saint Louis, and Louis XV were cited as regular drinkers of Cornas wines.
