Mastroberardino Aglianico Campania IGT 2009
Ruby-red with intense aromas of blackberries and wild black cherries, known locally as "le amarene" in Italian. This delightful Aglianico manages to achieve both firm structure and velvety softness on the palate, with flavors of dark berries and minerality that unfold well into the finish. Pairs beautifully with roasted meats or tomato-based soups and sauces.
100% Aglianico. The Mastroberardino family has been involved in winemaking for almost three centuries. Official records suggest that in the 1700s someone named Berardino, with the professional Mastro ("master craftsman") title, founded the company's headquarters in Atripalda, in the heart of the Irpinia winemaking region. Since then, the Mastroberardino family's holdings have spread across several parts of Irpinia, in areas which have historically been proven to be the production center of the region's great wines. Since the installation of a series of paintings - masterpieces from artists like Raffaele De Rosa, Maria Micozzi, and Doina Botez - their cellars have also become a fine arts gallery of sorts visited by people from all over the world.
