Marchesi de' Frescobaldi Mormoreto 2006
Purple-flecked, deep ruby color. The rich aroma with ripe fruit contributes to a complex aromatic mosaic, in which blueberry, blackcurrant, dried plum, raspberry, dates, and wild berry jam are discernible, enriched by spicy nuances of green pepper, ginger, and vanilla which act as an effective foil to impressions of cocoa butter, chlorophyll, and tobacco leaf. Fine-grained, silky tannins on the palate contribute to a velvety mouthfeel, while a harmonious freshness drives a long-lingering, dense development. Terrific partner with any long-cooked meat dish, such as marinades, pot roasts, or stews. Also delicious with aged cheeses.
60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot. Since 1300, Frescobaldi is a Florentine family with thirty generations dedicated to the production of great Tuscan wines in five estates in Tuscany, and a quality distribution network in over 65 countries worldwide. The silver Mormoreto label pays homage to a farsighted family ancestor and his revolutionary idea in the mid-1800s to produce a great Tuscan wine. In 1855 he invested 1,000 silver Florin coins to plant the first Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines in Tuscany, the grapes used in Mormoreto wines. At the center of the Mormoreto label is the Albizi family's coat of arms, which depicts radiating silver rays in memory of the fame and notoriety of the Florentine family. The crest commemorates the marriage in 1800 between Leonia degli Albizi and Angiolo Frescobaldi that united these two historic Florentine families.
