Vibrantly bright, with a touch of mahogany toward the rim. The nose is generous in its complexity with fine and elegant red berry fruits and hints of earthy spices. The palate is medium bodied, soft, juicy and lengthy showing piercing strawberry and cherry fruits layered over a carpet of mushrooms, strawberry leaf and forest floor complexity. The finish is firm, clean and lengthy.
100% Pinot Noir. The Gaunox family has lived in the Cote d'Or for several centuries. Jean-Michel worked with his father, Francois Gaunoux of Domaine Francois Gaunoux, until establishing Domaine Jean-Michel Gaunoux in 1990. He cultivates 14.8 acres of vines in Meursault, Pommard, and Volnay, with his celllars located in Meursault. Practicing lutte raisonne, or "the reasoned struggle", in the vineyard, Jean-Michel works to preserve the soil without using any pesticides. This green harvesting is carried out at the beginning of the ripening season to ensure low yields. Fermentation takes place in a selection of new and one-year-old French barrels, then the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered. As a result, Jean-Michel Gaunox's wines are elegant, harmonious, and have the capacity to age marvelously.
