Warm days, cool nights, and the well-drained, ancient river-bed soils of Mendocino County yield grapes for the concentrated black fruit flavors and pepper notes in this Syrah. Crafted with traditional winemaking techniques and oak-barrel aging; this is an ideal companion for barbecued meats or sharp cheddar cheese.
Hess Family Estates was founded in 1844 by Johann Heinrich Hess in Berne, Switzerland. For more than 100 years, beer was the central business. When he died, his son, Donald Hess, took over the company and soon became an entrepreneur. In the early 1960s, anticipating the surge of demand for bottled water, Donald created Valser Water, which would become Switzerland's leading mineral-water company. In 1978, the establishment of the Hess Collection Winery on Mount Veeder in the Napa Valley started an epic journey that would see vines planted and art museums built across the globe, culminating with Bodega Colome—the highest vineyard in the world in Argentina. Hess selected individual blocks from family-owned vineyards that consistently show their dedication to quality.
