Emmolo Wine - Merlot 2021

The palate starts of velvety, building up to flavors of dark berry and shaved chocolate. Tannins begin off delicate, clutching their delicateness and fine surface even as they become increasingly articulated. This is a wine that fills and coats the mouth, driving into a very long completion set apart by kinds of espresso beans and dark cocoa.

Emmolo is deeply rooted in Napa Valley. In 1923, Jenny Wagner's great-grandfather purchased land in Rutherford, where he founded his grapevine nursery, becoming the Napa Valley's main purveyor for quality rootstock. Her grandfather planted vineyards there in the 1950s, and it was her mother who brought winemaking into the fold when she founded Emmolo Wines in 1994. It is now Jenny's honor to continue the legacy, farming wines, and making Emmolo wines here in the original winery her great-grandfather built. Jenny's goal is to build on her family's tried-and-true viticulture techniques, enhanced with fresh approaches, and to produce a wine that is memorable for its finesse and character.
