Durbanville Hills Winery Shiraz 2005
This Shiraz is deep red in color. The nose is toasty and smoky with spicy pepper, cloves and vanilla. You'll also notice hints of fruits and spices which combine well on the palate with tasting notes of vanilla and sweet wood. The unique character of this wine lies in the influence of the different vineyards from which the grapes were sourced. The grapes were hand harvested mid to the end of March, just before shrivelling set in, when the tannins and fruit had reached optimum ripeness. To soften the texture, the wine was left on the skins for one week after the fermentation period. Barrel matured for 12 months, this wine boasts a distinguished, sweet woody finish.
Our winemaker experts recommend serving the wine with lamb neck potjie, waterblommetjie stew, pepper steak, venison pie and roast duck .
