Domaine Laroche L'Avenir Pinotage 2011
Luminous, bright red-purple color. The floral-Pinot-noir component of this varietal is expressed very delicately without detracting from the unique South-African nature of this fascinating cultivar. The palate is filled with notes of ripe red cherries and raspberry.
100% Pinotage. In his search for exceptional land and original grape varieties, Michel Laroche, through a South African friend and former shareholder in Laroche S.A., visited South Africa in 1997. He had dropped by a number of local producers, however the prevailing political situation immediately following the end of apartheid dissuaded him from continuing his pursuit. In 2004, a French partner at L'Avenir confided in Michel Laroche that he wanted to sell his shares. So in 2005, Michel Laroche acquired the magnificent L'Avenir Wine Estate in Stellenbosch. The estate, including a country lodge, encompasses a total of 158 acres with 71.66 acres of vineyards in production. L'Avenir is known for producing elegant and generous wines with very classical characteristics and this acquisition was a further commitment by Laroche to produce wines of prestige and quality outside of his native France. This Pinotage wine is a fruit-filled, succulent, and lighter-styled red wine ideal for drinking without further maturation.
