Domaine Estelle et Pierre Clavel Le Mas 2016
An intense nose of ripe fruit with a bouquet of spices, accentuated by nutmeg and cinnamon. It reveals a fresh and balanced crispy fruit in the mouth, inviting another sip and an intense finish, with lingering aromas of black fruits and soft spices. Drink outdoors if possible, with grilled meats and vegetables, in a lively atmosphere.
55% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 20% Carignan, 5% Mourvedre. The Clavel name is closely associated with winemaking in the Languedoc region for generations. Pierre's father, Jean Clavel, was a brilliant wine historian who founded the AOC Coteaux du Languedoc. Pierre Clavel created his winery in 1986 in the lively Pic Saint Loup wine region with the desire to carry on the family tradition. The 81.5-acre vineyard is spread over three remarkable subappellations of the Languedoc: Pic Saint Loup, Gres de Montpellier, La Mejanelle, and Saint Christol. Their wines have been certified as organic by EcoCert since the 2012 vintage.
