Domaine de Saint-Romble Sancerre A.O.C. Blanc 2011
Seemingly frozen in time, this venerable family-run property is tucked away in the sleepy hamlet of Maimbray, just a few miles away from the famed village of Sancerre. Paul Vattan has four children but none of them wanted to take over the wine business. So, in 1996 Vattan retired and sold the entire property to Domaine Fournier Pere et Fils in nearby Verdigny. Fournier harvests and presses the Vattan grapes at their state-of-the-art Verdigny facility, but vinification takes place in Vattan's Saint-Romble cellar.
100% Sauvignon blanc. Light golden appearance. On the nose, this wine is reminiscent of lemon and split Acacia wood. On the palate, it is firm, quite full, and lasting on the finish with a hint of lime.
