Domaine de Durban A.O.P. Cru Beaumes-de-Venise 2014
A big wine that seems light as a feather? A luscious mouthful and after the feathery part, a tannin kicks in. This red Rhone has wild strawberry in its pretty fruit bouquet and dried thyme as the aftertaste subsides. Accompanies red meat, game, or cheese. Serve at about 62 degrees F.
70% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre. On the plateau overlooking the village of Beaumes-de-Venise, next to a pine forest, Domaine de Durban looks out over the vineyards to a unique panorama. It is in this magnificent setting that the Leydier family devote all their experience and attention to producing the vintages. Nearby are found many historical sites which bear witness to the region's rich past. The limestone and clay soil, the orienation of the vineyard which insures maximum exposure to the sun, and the special local microclimate—all these factors favor the production of consistently fine wines from one year to the next. On the Durban label there is a coat of arms with three "Ts." This is the official coat of arms of the village of Beaumes-de-Venise.
