De Martino Single Vineyard Old Bush Vines Las Cruces 2008
A fruity wine with black fruit, blackberry, mint, and dark chocolate on the noste. The palate is fresh, with good acidity and a touch of balsam. The wine has a long finish and the oak doesn't mask its fruit flavors. In its perfect balance, it exemplifies de Martino's goal of producing wines that complement food and with minimal in-cellar intervention so as to fully and honestly express the origin of the vineyard that gave it life. Best enjoyed within the first 15 years at an ideal temperature of 63 degrees F.
60% Malbec, 30% Carmenere, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. De Martino (Reinventing Chile) was founded in 1934 by Pietro De Martino Pascualone who came from Italy in search of a place to satisfy his passion for winemaking. He found a perfect site, just 31 miles from Santiago, in Isla de Maipo—a village so-called because of the numerous branches of the Maipo River that surrounded it until the early 20th century. A powerful earthquake have since dried up all but one large branch of the river. Today, De Martino has over 740 organically managed acres of vineyards and creates wines that are a true reflection of their origin. The Single Vineyard range offers Chile's quintessential terroir wines. The limited production from Chile's most-exceptional vineyards makes each wine a unique expression of Chile's diversity.
